Job Description Team Leader NCS (National Citizen Service)

Leicester Riders Foundation is the charity arm of Leicester Riders – the country’s oldest basketball club. We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic, charismatic and dedicated individuals to deliver our NCS (National citizen Service) programme for Summer 2020.

 

NCS is the largest youth development programme for young people ages 15-17 across the UK, supporting young people to embark on a three-week programme that aims to fast track their future by developing skills focused around meeting new people, developing independence and providing a platform for young voices to be heard.

Assistant team leader, A team of up to 16 young people

 

 

The NCS Programme is divided into four phases:

 

 Phase 1: Be Epic - 4 night away Residential You will go away with your team for four nights and five  days for outdoor adventure, new challenges and team-building.

 Phase 2: Live Life - 4 night Residential based in Leicester, at university student accommodation supporting the team to develop independent living skills and getting to know their local community.

Phase 3: Do Good – 30 hours of social action in the local community You will support your team to plan, design and implement a project that will make a real difference to their local community, charity or cause.

 Phase 4: Go Party – An evening to Celebrate with your team at graduation, this will be held in September where young people will collect their certificates. (date TBC)

 

Aim of the role:

 To safely lead a team of up to 16 young people through each of the 3 phases of the NCS programme

 

Plan/deliver activities where appropriate.

 

  To supervise the Assistant Team Leader and co-ordinate the workload with them considering their development in the process.

 

Core Responsibilities:

To be responsible for the 16 young people in your team and young people and the wider wave where needed, providing supervision, motivation and encouragement to ensure your team succeeds.

 

Ensure young people are engaging in activities and manage behaviour issues

 

Positively engage with community partners and manage the relationship

 

 Responsibility for the health, safety, wellbeing and engagement of young people

 

 Engage with Young People and offer pastoral support

 

 Lead Guided Reflection daily within your team and wider wave

 

 Follow Safeguarding, incident, information governance, health and safety and risk assessment protocol

 

Be responsible in making sure you and your team follow the given risk assessments as safety procedures and guidance around all activities

 

Ensuring all paperwork and registers are completed promptly and in the given deadlines.

 

To be responsible for all personal data and information regarding young people and this is confidential in accordance to GDPR.

 

To administer basic first aid in line with NCS training.

 

To report any incidents within 24 hours to wave leader/ programme manager

 

Ensuring all activities are inclusive

 

Be responsible for and facilitate young people to complete their social action project hours and complete their planned project

 

To ensure planned projects that involve fundraising and community engagements are authorised by the programme manager.

 

Support the assistant team leader throughout programme delivery

Personal Specification

A levels or equivalent

Knowledge of the NCS programme or knowledge of young people’s services

Experience and understanding of the issues affecting young people

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information

A Flexible working approach

Able to complete a full enhanced DBS check

Experience working with young people or children in a youth, community or school setting.

Ability to motivate and inspire and use your own initiative 

Be able to demonstrate an understanding of safeguarding

Be able to commit to a three-week contract of employment + compulsory training weekend.

Programme dates 

wave 1:  29th June – 17th July (plus compulsory training weekend and keep warm events)

wave 2: 27th July – 14th August (plus compulsory training weekend and keep warm events)
